Beach Imagery

For Relaxation and Meditation

(Have someone read this aloud, or record it onto a tape and listen regularly to reconnect with yourself and create balance in your life.)

In a moment, I am going to take you on a journey with me.  We are going to a place that will relax your body and nourish your soul. Before we begin, get into a comfortable position and allow your body to relax.  Let the tension flow out of your muscles by letting your shoulders and arms become heavy.  Close your eyes and let your breathing become regular and relaxed.  First, exhale, letting the air out with some sound.  Now inhale through your nose, hold, and then exhale slowly.  Again, breathe in, hold, exhale.

Imagine that you are lying on a beach.  It is a peaceful area.  No other people are around.  Only you, the ocean and the sky.  The sun is shining and you can feel its warmth wash over your body.  You sense the sun’s brightness through your closed eyes.  You feel the comforting warmth on your face.  You feel it on your legs, on your arms and throughout your whole body.  You lay quiet and relax as nature touches your body and heals your spirit.

You hear the rhythm of the ocean waves just beyond your feet.  A cool breeze refreshes you and carries with it the scent of the sea.  You breathe deeply, filling your lungs with clear, life-giving air.  Beneath you the warm sand comforts.  You relish the sensation as the warm earth molds to your shape. You breathe, and relax, and let your mind wander.

As you lie there, you imagine that in the distance, far down the beach, a person is walking toward you.  Your attention is drawn as something about this person attracts you.  You do not move.  You continue to experience the sea and the air and the sun.  You continue to bask in the warmth.  You watch, and notice the graceful moves of this solitary walker.  Graceful and confident.  At peace in this setting.  You sense a spirit who is happy.  You find that you want to meet this approaching stranger.  But as you wait, you notice that though the walker comes toward you in the surf, the distance does not lessen.  You arise, walk to the ocean’s edge and move toward this intriguing person.  You are not in a hurry, for you know you will meet.  And you need time to figure out what attracts you so.

Is it the body?  Yes.  It is like the body you have always admired.  Not perfect, not by any measure, but beautiful and content.  You can tell all that by how the stranger moves.  Is it the eyes that attract you?  Yes.  But how is it that you can see them from this distance?  The eyes reflect goodness and warmth.  The same feelings you have been experiencing today on the beach.  You draw ever closer and notice the smile.  Welcoming.  Inviting you to approach and become acquainted.  You find yourself smiling back.  And approaching not with words in mind, but with your hand extended in greeting.  As your hands clasp, your eyes truly open and you realize that the stranger is you.  Happy, confident and loving, you embrace and become one.

You walk along the beach and begin to understand who you are meant to be.  You begin to transform in ways that only you will notice.  You find in yourself the love, understanding and success that you have been craving.

Stay on the beach as long as you like.  Let your body and your spirit be replenished by sun and ocean.  When you are ready, return to the present, knowing that whenever your energy or spirit flags, you may visit again.  Come often to this place of peace and beauty.  Your soul will thank you.
